It can be safely said,  both men and women with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) need this protocol.  The people should includes those who have experienced a heart attack or unstable angina.  In fact, these people are 45-47% less likely to die within three years if they start taking a high dose statin and ezetimibe.  This is compared to those only who are currently taking a high dose prescription statin medications.

Researchers are very optimistic.  The have been quoted as saying, ” If treatment guidelines are changed to reflect the findings, it could prevent many thousands of deaths each year.”

The study was published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, .   The report was made public by Professor Maciej Banach of the Medical University of Lodz in Poland.

Data from  over 1,500 patients with ACS were evaluated. First, 50% had been tgiven  high doses of  statin  medication.  Second, the other 50% were given a combination of  ezetimibe and a high dose statin  medication.  This was show to Prevent Heart Attacks

Researchers  had excellent results.  They reported those who started taking a statin and ezetimibe  were less likely to die of any cause during the next three years.  This being said,  risk of death was  lower after only 55 days of trial treatment.  The data suggest that out of every 22 patients taking the double treatment for three years, 1.3 deaths  were medically preventable.
