My Mom is suffering from the beginnings of Alzheimer’s and getting her to remember to take her pills each day was a headache for her (she hated feeling like she was nagged about it) and me (I hated nagging). Now, this amazing pill box ( Med-Q Smart pill box with alarm ) does the “nagging” for us and my Mom laughs every time it “beeps and flashes” at her. But, since we’ve had it, she hasn’t missed a day of pills! It IS, as others have mentioned, a bit tricky to get set up but once it’s up and running, it’s great.
The only other thing we did was to tape simple, explicit instructions to the bottom of it (coming out for the bottom so the pill box sits on top of the instructions) about how to turn it off (we actually said “#1 – Take your pills. # 2 – Hit the Next Alarm button once to turn off) and we taped over everything but the “Next Alarm” button (otherwise it was a bit confusing for her). I totally recommend this for anyone with “forgetful” loved ones. Best money I ever spent!NOT DOUBLE DOSES OR MISSED DOSES IN THE 2 MONTHS MOM HAS USED THIS!!!!By shannaThis was just what we needed.We were looking for a lockout product but were not happy with those (price, size, requirement to be plugged in, requirement for a phone line connection or wifi), so tried this and found it was great. 1. Not super industrial looking and no cord to plug it. It can sit on the kitchen table and not take up lots of space or look like a big bingo machine! And it is blue – which she likes!
2. The flashing red light really helps. My mom has not taken the wrong meds or missed a dose in the two months we have had. She has no vision in one eye and low in the other.
3. The alarm every 30 minutes works well. If she misses it, it just keeps on alerting every 30 minutes until she responds.
