The Alzheimer’s Association is the most known charity.  To illustrate, the  most familiar for those involved with Alzheimer’s disease.  Again, the biggest nonprofit organization dedicated to Alzheimer’s and dementia sufferers.  First, in 1981, it was called. ” Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association”.   Today, there are lots of  local chapters.  Again, scattered through out many different communities.  In addition, they offer great resources for supporting both people with Alzheimer’s and dementia and the caregivers. First of all, they provide education.  Second, give funds to research.  Finally, provide local support for families and professionals.

Some examples include:
  • The Longest Day: June 21 (recognized as the longest day of the year).  The goal, remembering and advocating  for people suffering with Alzheimer’s.  Again.  letting people know that caring for someone with Alzheimer makes many days very,e very long.
  • The Walk for Alzheimer’s is an annual event.  People  get donors to sponsor a community walk for Alzheimer’s in September each year.

Cure Alzheimer’s Fund for research

Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (CAF) is known as Alzheimer’s Disease Research Foundation.  Their goal,  raise money for research for treatment and prevention. The organization started in 2003.  Founded by a few families who were frustrated by the slow pace of Alzheimer’s research.  CAF has given over 60 million for medical research. They work to raise money by seeking partnerships.  For example, holding fundraising events such as golf tournaments.  The goal, a smart pill box filled with cognitive ant-deterioration prescription medication. 

American Brain Foundation is a great resource

The American Brain Foundation helps connect researchers with donors.  In addition, the ABF tries to raise awareness of brain disease. American Academy of Neurology has more than 33 Thousand current neurologists and other professionals members. The ABF’s goal is very basic.  “Cure brain disease once and for all.”  With over $27 million  has been donated.  The places, research on several types of brain disease.  For example,  types of dementia, stroke, autism, brain tumors.  In addition Lou Gehrig’s disease as well as types of MS (multiple sclerosis). 

 Brain Pavers is the newest program..  It helps facilitate the involvement of the community and social media in fundraising efforts.  The are trying to choose an activity.  Foe example,  car washes and bake sales.

Alzheimer’s Foundation of America

Alzheimer’s Foundation of America started in 2001.  The founder,  a family caregiver whose mother passed away after living with Alzheimer’s for over a decade before passing.
AFA offers resources to the dementia caregivers.  Again, resources go to family education as well as free memory screening.  Finally, help with training for  dementia care .  Finally,  professionals and support groups through out the US.
The support the “Light the Nation” program for one day each November.  The goal,  increase dementia awareness. Over 2,700 groups have an AFA membership.  Hence, proof of the commitment to quality Alzheimer’s care and ongoing education.. AFA also gives dollar grants to organizations to further programs directed to dementia care .

Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation

The Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation (FCARF) was founded by philanthropists Zachary Fisher and David Rockefeller in 1995. Their goal was to build a top of the line research center to seek a cure for Alzheimer’s.  In addition, FCARF provides educational resources through their website.  Furthermore, they publish a semi-annual magazine called Preserving Your Memory.  Finally, the majority of their donations go to partner  who share similar goals.
